Mark Rothko was born in 1903 and was part of the American Abstract Expressionist Movement. He eventually took hold of his style in the late 1940’s and began painting canvases with large blocks of pure color adding abstraction to make them rectangles. This color block style is what he will be know for going forward. He became a master of expression through color.
