Music for Mind, Body, and Soul

Music is meaningful. That’s why the East End Arts & Music school is dedicated to helping adults and children to unleash their musical creativity and connect with fellow musicians to form a strong music-loving community in Riverhead and surrounding communities.

Bands, Groups, and Performance

Playing in a band is not just about individual performance, but also about working together in a group situation. In a band, each instrument relies on the others, and without collaboration and coordination, the group’s performance will suffer.

To succeed in a band, musicians must develop their teamwork skills. This involves listening to each other, learning from one another, and working on harmonies, timing, and following each other’s lead. By doing so, they can create a cohesive sound that reflects the group’s unique style and personality.

Ultimately, being in a band requires a shared commitment to performance and a willingness to work together towards a common goal.

Our group ukulele and guitar classes are great stepping stones to the band. Read on to learn more!

Group Music Classes

Under the Direction of Bakithi Kumalo

A 5-time grammy award winning musician playing with the likes of Paul Simon, Herbie Hancock, Susan Tedeschi Band, Josh Groban, Gloria Estefan, and many more. He is most well known for his bass lines on Paul Simon’s album “Graceland”, and more specifically his never before done solo on the Song “You can call me Al”.

The groups work together as a band. Students/musicians learn the basics: setting up their equipment, understanding a PA system, working a mic, harmonizing vocally, learning to play with other band members, learning to take solos; as well as the introduction to new genres of music.

Students/musicians work on mastering skills, such as playing together as a band, timing, and most importantly, performance and stage presence. At the conclusion of each session, students will perform to exhibit the growth of each student.

Creating a song and writing lyrics has been added to the curriculum The students will share the experience and record their original song in our Recording Studio.

All students/musicians are required to be proficient at an intermediate to advanced level in an instrument of choice in order to participate.: vocals, guitar, bass, drums, or keys (other instruments are also welcome).
