Dr. Frank Hansen

We are honored to introduce our 2025 Music Master, Dr. Frank Hansen. A professional musician since the age of 14 and an educator for nearly 40 years, Dr. Hansen has built and nurtured music programs while sharing his expertise with students at Commack High School, Suffolk County Community College, and Five Towns College. Holding a doctorate in music history from Five Towns College, along with degrees in Jazz Performance and Composition from Queens College and a Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music, he is an accomplished bassist, composer, and arranger.

Dr. Hansen has performed with legendary artists such as Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, B.B. King, Ella Fitzgerald, Barbra Streisand, Oscar Peterson, Dizzy Gillespie, Bobby McFerrin, Itzhak Perlman, and Yo-Yo Ma. His philosophy, “musician first, teacher second,” brings a unique perspective to his teaching, treating students as colleagues and guiding them toward musical growth. As both an educator and performer, Dr. Hansen’s contributions to the world of music continue to inspire and elevate the next generation of musicians.

This program would not be possible if not for the continued generosity of our sponsors, Harlan and Olivia Fischer. The Music Master Program is open to all high school students across Long Island school districts, and is tuition free. Students will work alongside other exceptional music students perfecting their skills all while learning from a true professional in the music industry. All instruments and vocalists are welcome. We are excited to accept even more students this year and look to build a full band, including a horn section.

Through one-on-one learning opportunities with master musicians, the students are given training in rehearsal and performance skills, in addition to recording, marketing, composition, and songwriting. They leave with life-long relationships and friendships, as well as portfolio materials to assist them in future endeavors, including their pursuit of post-graduate education, and it is tuition free.
