Gallery Talk: Art is Personal with Anne Sherwood Pundyk & Jill Brienza

April 27 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Art is Personal: A Conversation with artist & writer Anne Sherwood Pundyk and art producer, curator & writer Jill Brienza

Anne and Jill will delve into their common belief in the personal impact of art. In her 30 years as a producer, curator and writer, Jill has always supported the artists’ perspective. “When I [work with] an artist, I want them to really push the limits,” she said early in her career. Anne and Jill have grown a friendship around experiencing art on a direct, subjective level. Jill’s projects have taken her around the world, while she has maintained her long-time roots on Shelter Island. Their mutual connection to the North Fork over the last 10 years has allowed an intimate exchange about the intersection of artmaking, the artworld, and our current-day challenges.

Doors open at 12:30PM

11 West Gallery [11 W. Main St., Riverhead]

Space is limited. Please reserve ahead.

About Anne – An artist and writer, Anne Sherwood Pundyk brings together the traditions of abstract art, textiles and storytelling. Activated by color, her unstretched paintings are constructed from stained, cropped and sewn sections of drop cloth canvas. Elements of her studio work link directly to her photographs, artist’s books, writing and performance pieces. Based in New York, Pundyk has engaged in her art making, exhibiting and art writing over the last 35 years. She relocated her studio to the North Fork ten years ago. Curator Helen A. Harrison observed, “…[Pundyk’s] work suggests that understanding requires another interpretive tool, or perhaps a personal surrender to a deeper, less accessible, level of cognition.” The move has been the catalyst for a fundamental re-centering of her art around adapting everyday forms with an eye toward questioning convention. annesherwoodpundyk.com @anne.sherwood.pundyk
