I like to think of my artwork as events/shows rather than visualizations. The subject is more important than the translation of the subject. I am more interested in the particular as opposed to the essence. A painting is made up of dominant and subordinate elements. I try to design mine to force the viewer to see the picture scene by scene. My paintings are not nonobjective. They are my response to the real world. They are portraits, landscapes, still lifes. The artworks are wall scrolls, my “mind spray”. Whatever music I am listening to or what people are talking about and doing becomes apart of my mind spray. To paraphrase Picasso- “An artist is a collector. He takes what he likes in other pictures and makes them his own”. I begin with a subject, but in the process the painting makes its own demands. Ultimately the painting is about itself. It is its own event/show.
