ABOUT THE JURORS

Kathryn Markel

Owner, Kathryn Markel Fine Arts, New York, NY and Bridgehampton, NY
Co-Juror for National Show: The Figure, 2015

Kathryn Markel has owned Kathryn Markel Fine Arts, which specializes in painting and work on paper by contemporary American artists, since 1975. Her two galleries are located in Chelsea, NYC and Bridgehampton, NY. Ms. Markel is a respected member of the contemporary art community. She has lectured widely on the contemporary art market and is a member of ArtTable, an organization for women in the arts.
Regarding her reaction to new art, Ms. Markel states, “My reaction is immediate and visceral. I need to feel it more than understand it. I like to see a unique visual language, juicy paint handling, and a kind of clarity, control, and obvious intention, as opposed to the paintings that seem accidental.”

Peter J. Marcelle

Director, Gerald Peters Gallery in New York & Santa Fe
Owner, The Peter Marcelle Project in Southampton, NY
Co-Juror for National Shows: The Figure (2015); The Creative Process (2014); H2O (2013); Joy (2012)

Peter Marcelle is the Director of the Gerald Peters Gallery New York City (24 East 78th Street) and Sante Fe, NM, and owner of The Peter Marcelle Project in Southampton, NY. Marcelle brokered the multimillion dollar sale of Andrew Wyeth’s ‘Helga’ portraits and has a vast Wyeth collection of his own. Besides Wyeth, Peter represents many important contemporary artists.

Programs of the East End Arts Gallery are made possible with public funding provided by New York State Council of the Arts, Suffolk County, and the Town of Riverhead.
