Writing Workshop – Memoirs, Journaling, and Short Stories

Everyone has a story – and we’d love to help you tell it. Maria’s passion is to share her love of writing with others and not only teach you the craft, but inspire you to write your own narrative. Writing is a medium used to express your feelings, thoughts, and experiences in words. Together, through this workshop, we can discover your voice, sharpen your skills, and record your life’s story on paper!

A little about Maria Orlando Pietromonaco: She has been a journalist, writer, and editor on Long Island for over 30 years, and has worked for a variety of publications including Newsday, Dan’s Paper, LI Pulse, and many others. She also wrote a local history book Images of America: Long Island’s North Fork.

This workshop is for writers of all levels – from beginners to more experienced. Come listen, learn, write – and share if you’d like!

Studio Art Workshop with Renee Brown

Studio Art is an open studio class, similar to our successful Ultimate Studio class on Saturdays. Each class helps you build your skills in multiple mediums of art. This unique studio class will delve into the basics of drawing and painting. Each session the student concentrates on different styles, paint mediums, and subject matter, mastering a portrait, then a figure, then still life, then abstract, and maybe landscape too. This class is suited for all levels and works as a true studio class. Each person walks away with a sense of accomplishment and determination, with improved skills to push them even further in their art journey. The goal is to complete a fantastic art piece each session.

Please bring your own supplies, canvas, paints, paper, etc. Easels, brushes, and other basic supplies will be provided. If you wish to utilize EEA supplies, you will be charged an additional $5.00 per class.

Two-Day Workshop – Plus Certification

Learn the incredibly versatile and environmentally friendly method of printmaking called Solar plate etching. Beginner and seasoned artists alike will enjoy exploring this exciting, non-toxic medium. Solar plate etching utilizes a thin steel plate that is coated with a UV light sensitive photopolymer. All that is needed to create a plate is sunlight, water, and your imagination! No harsh chemicals or solvents involved. This method works well for photography as well as drawing. Artists will explore various materials and learn a variety of ways to create unique plates and prints.

Materials will be provided by instructor.
Materials fee $30

PHOTOGRAPHERS: If you would like to work with photography, please convert images to black and white then print them onto a transparency. The image size should be 6” x 8” or larger. You can have them printed at Staples or you can print them on a home printer. Be sure to use the transparency that is appropriate for your printer (Do not use Pictorico).

As a bonus Chris Ann will certify you for press use at EEA

MATERIALS: Materials such as ink, brayers, solar plates, and paper will be provided by instructor however you are welcome to bring your own.
