New Kids on the Rock
Ages 11 to 17

New Kids on the Rock is a band directed by Bakithi Kumalo along with Assistant Director Natalia Rahim. Bakithi has played on five Grammy-winning albums and is best known for his work with Paul Simon on Graceland. The students work on mastering skills such as; playing together as a band, timing, and most importantly, performance and stage presence. At the conclusion of each session, students will perform to exhibit their growth over the session.
All students are required to be proficient at an intermediate to advanced level in an instrument of choice in order to participate.: vocals, guitar, bass, drums, keys, violin, or horns (all instruments are welcome).

Rehearsal Dates:
Wednesdays, 4:00 to 5:30, 9 weeks, July 12, 19, 26, August 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30th, 2023.

Manga Art
In this course, students will work on creating Manga pages based on a story of their choice using the principles learned in class.
Through completing the assigned tasks students will gain a better understanding of what it takes to develop entertaining design and comics, storytelling, and character development.
The lessons are designed to be fun and aid and facilitate the acquisition of drawing and creative skills

Concept Art
Students will learn the process of developing and designing characters, and environments, for comics, games, and professional industries, from collecting and researching reference material and images to developing a fully realized character of their own creation.
This introductory class is intended to be fun and informative towards drawing, creating, and discovering worlds and stories students want to tell. The students are encouraged to bring their own unique talents and skills, including electronic devices such as a tablet or laptop with drawing capabilities and software. All levels of ability are welcome.

Illustration
Students take a contemporary approach to traditional techniques and are encouraged to bring electronic devices such as a tablet or laptops with drawing capabilities and software. Students will choose an area of interest and develop areas of emphasis in drawing, composition, and storytelling. Students will develop an attention to detail, and an understanding of human and animal anatomy and design, to tell or illustrate a narrative. All levels of ability are welcome.

Mark will work with each student according to which class they are interested in. The classes will be kept small so he can give each student guidance and individual attention through all phases.

In this two-day, three-hour workshop, participants will learn the basics of painting from photographs. The workshop will take place in a classroom or studio setting and will include a mix of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practice sessions.

On the first day, participants will learn how to choose a suitable photograph for painting and how to prepare their painting surface. They will be introduced to color theory and mixing, and learn how to select and mix colors that match the photograph. Participants will then begin painting, following a step-by-step process to create a basic underpainting of the photograph.

On the second day, participants will continue working on their paintings, adding details and refining the image. The instructor will provide feedback and guidance throughout the process, helping participants to troubleshoot any issues that may arise. Participants will also learn how to varnish and finish their paintings, and will have the opportunity to showcase their finished work.

By the end of the workshop, participants will have gained a solid understanding of how to paint from photographs, creating a painting illustrating their own vision of the subject.

Day two will focus on more advanced techniques such as shading, perspective, and composition, with an opportunity to explore different styles and genres of drawing. Students will receive feedback on their work and be encouraged to develop their personal style. By the end of the workshop, students will have a solid foundation in drawing and sketching, and produce works of art that demonstrate their skills and creativity.

Led by Zach, the group will learn simple chords and proper strumming techniques to play some easy songs. The classes are designed to be fun and social while developing musical skills, with no intimidation since you will be playing alongside other beginners.

Starting with 2-dimensional representation of a bird of the student’s choice.
Learning to see shape and detail, students will draw, then paint what they see.
Their interpretation is as important as technical ability.
Next part of the classes will be spent on building a bird from newspaper and tape and covering with paper maché paste then paint. The addition to this sculpture would be twigs for legs and a perching branch.

Ultimate Studio, Drawing & Painting Class with Kenneth Jackson.

Ultimate Studio is an ongoing studio class, formatted in four-week sessions, to help build your skills in multiple mediums of art. This unique studio class will delve into the basics of drawing and painting. Each week the student concentrates on different styles, paint mediums, and subject matter, mastering a portrait, then a figure, then still life, then abstract, and maybe landscape too. This class is suited for all levels and works as a true studio class. Each person walks away with a sense of accomplishment and determination, with improved skills to push them even further in their art journey. The goal is to complete a fantastic art piece each session.

Please bring your own supplies, canvas, paints, paper, etc. Easels, brushes, and other basic supplies will be provided. If you wish to utilize EEA supplies, you will be charged an additional $5.00 per class.

This week-long group vocal camp offers campers an opportunity to sing all their favorite songs along with their peers. The campers work on all aspects of performance, harmonies, mic control, belting, tone, and timing. They will also learn exercises and techniques to help create strong and healthy vocals. They will sing along to tracks as well as acapella.
Songs will include Broadway, Pop, and Singer Songwriter selections from familiar sources. Learn how working with other vocalists can help you achieve a more polished voice all while having a blast.

All campers enjoy outdoor play and some arts and crafts related to their performance. At the end of each camp week, the group performs live!

Full Day: Monday – Friday – 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
Lunch: (bring your own) 12:00 to 12:30
